With our second anniversary quickly approaching, we would love to share the impact we have had during 2022. In the past year, Cannenta Center for Healing and Empowerment has grown by 89%; our bilingual team has grown to an incredible 12 clinicians, two life coaches, and one support staff to serve the Dallas-Ft. Worth and San Antonio Communities. We have provided over 2000 hours of clinical healing, premarital sessions, and life coaching to over 200 clients.

Our clients presented with concerns that ranged from Trauma to ADHD.

Our 2022 outcomes show that our clients, on average, have been able to reduce their trauma scores from within a range of PTSD to a minimal disturbance in trauma symptoms within eight weeks and a reduction in depression scores from moderate depression to minimal depression within eight weeks. 

Along with our impact, we have partnered with four organizations and provided over 1000 clinical hours within those organizations in a culturally sensitive approach. 

This year we also celebrated the launch of our sister non-profit, Cannenta Foundation. The mission of Cannenta Foundation is to provide access to compassionate, culturally sensitive mental health care with improved outcomes by removing financial barriers and offering a comprehensive list of services to ensure exceptional care. Services with Our NEW Interns

Genesis Davila

Genesis is our student intern from the University of Texas at Arlington and is working to obtain her Master of Social Work degree with a concentration in Mental Health and Substance Use. Genesis is bilingual (Spanish) and was born and raised in Central Nebraska and moved to DFW in 2021. She strives to help break down mental health stigmas among the Latine community. Throughout this time as an intern, her goal during this experience is to help people feel empowered as they go through their healing journey.

Dora Hernandez

Dora is our bilingual (Spanish) student intern from the University of North Texas at Dallas and is working to obtain her Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling. She has multiple years of experience working with Spanish and English-speaking families and children in the non-profit sector and school setting. Dora is passionate about helping the Hispanic community have access to mental health.

The new year brings us hope for new beginnings and achievements.

Some of us will plan out our 2023 journey and goals. Here are a few things to remember if this is your yearly practice.  

1. Take a moment to acknowledge how far you have come in every area of your life (health, relationships, career, financial, mental health, self-care, etc.)

2. Be realistic about your time and abilities, and create SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time specific) goals in each area.

3. Keep your goals where you can see them, reflect on them, and visualize reaching these goals.

4. Be patient and give yourself grace if you aren’t perfect in achieving your daily goals.

For those of us who feel the pressure to make resolutions, vision boards, or reinvent ourselves, it’s important to remember your worth and know you only have to resolve yourself to change if you want to!

1. Be kind to yourself. When making your resolutions, remember your circumstances rather than unhealthy comparisons.

2. You can start fresh on your own timeline. You can start your journey at any time. There is no right or wrong time to start fresh.

3. You don’t need a new start if you don’t want one. If you don’t want to set resolutions, YOU DON’T HAVE TO!

Be proud of where you are, and remember that your 2023 journey is personal. Your choices should feel right for you at the right time. Make the decisions that help you become the best version of yourself.

Don’t forget! You can always contribute to someone in need of mental health by donating to the Cannenta Foundation.

Currently, the foundation is serving 18 clients in both English and Spanish. According to NAMI, only 35.1 % of Hispanic/Latinx adults with mental illness accept treatment. The barriers associated with lack of treatment include lack of cultural competence among practitioners, language barriers, poverty and less health insurance coverage, legal status, and stigma.
