Helping Clients Reframe Faith After Trauma
(Faith Part 1)

Trauma impacts every aspect of life, including one's personal relationship to their God or faith system. When not processed, faith related stuck points negatively impact a client’s access to their support system, use of coping skills, and their ability to continue to hold faith at all. It is vital, that we are prepared as practitioners to ethically and respectfully help clients process this faith related stuck points so they can maintain their faith system after trauma.

In this training we will:

  1. Identify common faith related stuck points

  2. Explore the impact faith related stuck points have on clients.

  3. Learn 3 interventions for faith related stuck points that can be used in CBT or Cognitive Processing Therapy.

  4. Introduce further resources for clients and clinicians dealing with faith issues and trauma.

Through an exploration of the following questions: how do social workers understand spirituality within social work practice, what meaning do social workers ascribe to spirituality, what is the social workers understanding of a spiritually sensitive practice, and how do social workers understand spirituality in terms of the “use of self” within the context of practice, participants will move beyond the theoretical concept of spirituality and engage their own lived experience.
